Why are you passionate about this work?
I believe education is an essential right that every student should have, and it should be an education that is of high quality, accessible, and relatable to them. Each student needs to understand the why behind their learning for them to want to learn. Learning can be hard and is unique to each person and I always found that when a student can see the way the lesson or subject effects them directly, in their lives, the most knowledge is retained. To do this, education needs to be learner centered so that students find joy in engaging with material and can build confidence in their ability to learn which will open up the door for lifelong learning and exponential self-growth.
Why is it important that we focus on empowering educators?
If we want to reach the greatest number of students possible, I believe educating, empowering and listening to teachers is the best approach. When teachers feel supported and are provided tools and resources, they are more likely to be joyful, innovative and engage with their student’s learning. If we can support teachers and show them the value in individualizing their curriculum through both practice and data while simultaneously valuing them as educators, they will have all the necessary tools and support to truly thrive and foster a nurturing learning environment which will directly impact all of their students.
