Part Time Learning Engineer

Just imagine if we could aggregate the very best professional learning expertise, by specific competency, and then build the joyful, engaging online learning experiences busy educators deserve…

About edsUP

Each year in the U.S., we invest at least $18B on K12 professional learning - with little to show for it. Too much is low quality, poorly aligned with strategic priorities, and produces limited or no evidence of effectiveness. This is not a new problem. We simply must do better.

edsUP - a new venture incubated and launched from 2Revolutions (see next) - is working to solve this problem at scale by enabling an entirely new way to upskill America’s educators. Working with best-in-class expert providers, we’re building the market infrastructure that delivers efficient, equitable access to the best professional learning content & supports in a new form: modular, adaptive, competency-based, and credit-bearing. Think Netflix for classroom teachers and building/systems leaders filled with high-quality learning experiences on the most important topics, all connected seamlessly with aligned offline supports from expert partners. It’s all possible, if we work together.

The edsUP team is small, mighty, and growing. We’re seeking new colleagues who are genuinely curious, driven, and passionate about helping us build toward edsUP’s ambitious vision.

About 2Revolutions

Founded in 2008, 2Revolutions (2Rev) is a national education design lab that helps grow communities’ capacity to design and implement equitable and innovative learning systems. We work in K12 and Higher Ed with school, district/community and state partners to help build readiness and capacity to transform toward more equitable, learner-centered schools and systems. So far, 2Rev has supported more than 450+ unique professional learning / design engagements in 39 states. edsUP is being incubated at 2Rev, while leveraging its experience, expertise and relationships across the K12 education sector.

About the Position

edsUP is seeking part-time (~10-20 hrs/week) Learning Engineer to build learning experiences for educators, using our proprietary learning experience design process. All work is asynchronous and remote, with periodic synchronous virtual meetings. The hourly range for a Learning Engineer is $40 - $50/hour.  Part-time consultants will be the first to know about new full-time opportunities as they become available.

“A Day in the Life”

While each experience will vary depending on the specific expert partner as well as each designer’s experience, expertise and preferences, typical activities might include:

  • working simultaneously (depending on availability) on one or multiple content build projects;

  • building  dynamic, engaging microlearning online experiences;

  • developing learning tools (e.g., rubrics, work samples, etc.) that are integral to a holistic learning experience;

  • integrating feedback from key stakeholders to improve the learning experience;

  • receiving specific tasks with descriptions and explicit due dates against project deadlines within 1-2 week cycles - usually (not always) at the top of the week with ample time for completion;

  • collaborating with Senior Learning Architects to ensure that there is consistent quality across all content build projects; and

  • communicating regularly with the Head of Learning throughout to process questions/insights and continually striving to nudge edsUP closer to joyful, engaging professional learning experiences.

Ideal (aka, “Right Fit”) Candidates

Approach & Style

  • You love building learning experiences - approaching this work as both art and science, you always keep your end-users in mind;

  • You are passionate about building better online learning experiences - the technical work includes online competency-based micro-learning, but “joyful and engaging” as a north star intrigues and excites you;

  • You approach each task with creativity, curiosity and care - as a young social venture, we move fast, often code-switching quickly between learning and doing. You appreciate the importance of urgency and attention to detail, but you bring playfulness and creative problem-solving skills to the work; and

  • You are a clear, consistent communicator - as a small, remote team striving to maintain coherence over many aspects of our work, we adhere to this mantra: early, often, and transparent.

Skills  & Experience

You’re probably a better fit if you have:

  • at least 5-7 years of experience in education - as a classroom teacher, administrator, instructional designer or other;

  • some instructional and/or curricular experience with competency-based learning and/or backwards design;

  • some instructional and/or curricular experience with engaged learning modalities - including experiential learning, deeper learning and/or game-based learning; and

  • experience with online learning experiences as a designer and/or learner - you feel comfortable navigating new learning platforms and troubleshooting along the way.
