Sharing Our Story: Innovative & Integrative Community in Virginia Beach

How might we build an integrative, innovative community? What does it look like to actively dismantle fragmentation in a complex education system? Over the past two years, we have been working to answer these questions through our partnership with Virginia Beach City Public Schools, as a grantee in the Carnegie Corporation’s Integration Design Consortium. (You might remember our past blog posts on this important work.)

Today, we are excited to share the story of our work so far. In collaboration with Nicole Falcone, Founder of storytelling company, Gather+Create, and 2Revolutions’ former Director of Storytelling, we’re launching a microsite that tells the stories of our work with VBCPS to date. We invite you to explore this microsite and learn about the 2Revolutions’ process and the prototypes our network teams developed in their efforts to create more equitable access to opportunity for all students and unlock transformational mindsets in educators and families. Hear from our network members themselves about their experience, view their culminating presentations from this past June, and learn all about their ideas for the future of Virginia Beach.

But the work doesn’t end here! We are thrilled to be able to formally announce Phase 2 of our partnership in Virginia Beach. Thanks to additional generous funding from Carnegie, we’re about to move into the implementation phase. This is an exciting opportunity to transition from initial prototypes to implementation at scale, while still holding true to the principles of design (in particular, iterative cycles that allow us to test and shift for continuous improvement) that help to ensure our solutions are engendering real impact and opportunity for kids and families, and are as integrative and innovative as possible.

This is an exciting opportunity to continue our partnership towards transformational learning for all Virginia Beach kids. We hope you join us as we continue to document learnings from this next phase!
